After your baby is born, all the attention often goes to the little one — but taking care of yourself matters just as much. Did you know you can combine exercise with time spent together with your baby?
Postnatal exercise is not about getting back into shape fast. It is a gradual recovery of your body after pregnancy and birth.
What does postnatal exercise give you?
- Helps rebuild the strength of your abdominal and back muscles.
- Supports the recovery of your pelvic floor muscles.
- Improves posture and body stability.
- Helps relieve tension and stress.
- Gives you time for yourself while staying close to your baby.
How does exercising with your baby work?
Classes combine gentle strength, mobility and breathing exercises with your baby close by. The exercises are adapted to your fitness level and your stage of postnatal recovery.
When can you start postnatal exercise?
Postnatal exercise classes with your baby are usually recommended from 6–8 weeks after birth, after checking with your gynaecologist or midwife that your body has recovered enough for physical activity.
After a caesarean section or a complicated birth, returning to physical activity may take longer. After an uncomplicated birth, light everyday movement can be resumed earlier, depending on how you feel.
Remember: every mum recovers differently! What matters is not speed, but a safe and gradual return to movement.
At Vecmāte we offer gentle postnatal exercise with your baby, helping mums regain strength and confidence in their bodies.
